My older daughter, Mary Singh, was born in 1979 in Elgin, Illinois. Although Mary is a fun loving and beautiful young woman, I have to confess that she inherited two genetic defects from her dad. You see Mary has a very bad sense of direction and gets lost at the drop of a hat. In fact, you would think that random chance would dictate that she take the wrong turn only half the time but like her father, she gets it wrong 80% of the time. The second genetic defect is a propensity for bad jokes and puns. As her husband Shaman claims, it’s not just a mild malady, it’s a dominant family distinctive.

Despite those challenges, Mary has already built quite an accomplished career as a network security analyst. Mary graduated from the University of Illinois and is currently living in Arlington, VA where she works for Mandiant, a leading cybersecurity firm which recently merged with FireEye. Her husband, Dr Shaman Singh, graduated from the Illinois Medical School and while he sees a “minimum” number of patients, he spends most of his time on establishing digital medical records protocols for the Veterans Administration.
